What Should I Do If My AC Is Running But Not Cooling?

If your AC runs but doesn’t cool, start with quick checks before calling for service. Set the thermostat to Cool and lower the setpoint. Replace a dirty filter. Make sure supply and return vents are open. Check that the outdoor unit is clear of debris. If you see ice on lines or the coil, turn the system off to thaw. These steps fix many “running but warm air” issues we see in Denver homes. If it still won’t cool, we can diagnose refrigerant, blower, or control faults.

Quick checks:

  • Thermostat: Cool mode, fan Auto
  • Filter: replace if dirty
  • Vents: open/unblocked
  • Outdoor unit: clear debris, reset breaker
  • Ice present: power off to thaw
